The materials

The hardboards principally differ in their main components.

KAROTEC
KAROTEC is a PVC formulation which looks quite different to other materials of its type. Here two formulae with different characteristics are used, which lend greater variability to the materials produced. Depending on the structure, the material can be made easier to work with or instead be made to retain its firmness; these are important factors when designing complex components.

KARODUR PP-SPE
KARODUR PP-SPE is a completely new compound comprised entirely of polypropylene. The material is bound with highly-oriented fibres and when pressed yields very good mechanical properties. As it comprises only one material group, the board is completely recyclable. The fact that the material is self-reinforcing means that it has excellent physical values in comparison to other thermoplastics. It displays very good impact resistance under a variety of conditions, enormous abrasion resistance and very high rigidity and firmness, particularly in pressed form. At a density of 0.92 g/cm3, it is incredibly light in comparison to glass-fibre reinforced materials. The material is thermally ductile at low temperatures and pressures. When combined with honeycomb-structured and foam materials, this material displays excellent energy absorption.
